BURBANK, Calif., December 2, 2005 - Walt Disney Home Entertainment presents THE SHAGGY DOG and THE SHAGGY D.A., two of Disney’s most highly requested family comedies, available March 7 on DVD for the very first time! It’s twice the howls of laughs and twice the shaggy shenanigans when favorite stars Fred MacMurray, Annette Funicello, Tommy Kirk, Kevin Corcoran, Dean Jones, Tim Conway, Suzanne Pleshette, Dick Van Patten, Keenan Wynn, Jo Anne Worley and more star in these classic comedies. THE SHAGGY DOG will include the color version and the original theatrical black & white version with 10 additional minutes of footage. Each movie has bonus features including audio commentaries. THE SHAGGY DOG and THE SHAGGY D.A. are each available for the collectible price of $19.99 (S.R.P.) – it’s a double dose of doggone fun!
It was featured on The Disney Sunday Movie, being preceded by the 1959 film The Shaggy Dog. In keeping with the tradition that Walt Disney introduced films, The Return of the Shaggy Dog was introduced by Disney CEO Michael Eisner, who attempts to invoke the transformation on Wilby, but when Eisner states the words, he has passed on the curse from Wilby to himself. The Shaggy Dog is a 2006 American family comedy film directed by Brian Robbins and written by Geoff Rodkey, Jack Amiel, Michael Begler, Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley, and is a remake of the 1959 live-action film of the same name by Charles Barton. The original film had a character named Wilby Daniels transforming into a Old English Sheepdog after putting on a magic ring, whereas the remake presents a character named Dave Douglas transforming into a Bearded Collie after getting bitten b. Is a 1976 American comedy film and a sequel to The Shaggy Dog (1959) produced by Walt Disney Productions.It was directed by Robert Stevenson and written by Don Tait. Like the first film in the series, it takes some inspiration from the Felix Salten novel, The Hound of Florence.
In THE SHAGGY DOG, Wilby Daniels (Tommy Kirk) is just an ordinary teenager until a magical ring accidentally transforms him into a lumbering sheepdog, whose owner is the leader of a plot to destroy the U.S. Space Program! It’s a laugh-out-loud story full of slapstick chases, sight gags, hot rods, spies, and spells, with a terrific cast. Fred MacMurray, Tim Considine, Kevin Corcoran, and Annette Funicello (in her big-screen debut!), alongside Tommy Kirk in the title role, make THE SHAGGY DOG a timeless comedy classic. This hilarious madcap adventure was the first live-action comedy Walt Disney produced.
In THE SHAGGY D.A., Wilby Daniels (Dean Jones) is now an adult, with a wife and son, and he’s running for District Attorney. What he doesn’t count on is the return of a certain magical ring, and a spell that hounds him all over again! In this side-splitting sequel to “The Shaggy Dog,” Wilby runs afoul of the shady incumbent District Attorney, ‘Honest John’ Slade, and his problems get worse when he’s accidentally turned into a sheepdog again. It’s more laughs and howls as Wilby and Slade lead the chase to get their hands, or paws, on the magic ring.
